I don't care how much I love Fighstar :@.
I hate this interview SO much.
EX-BUSTED star Charlie Simpson has spoken for the first time about how his unhappy spell in the chart-topping boy band left him on the verge of a mental breakdown.
In an exclusive interview, the hunky singer says he couldn't wait to quit the pop world and concentrate on his new rock outfit Fightstar.
The four-piece – also made up of Al Westaway, Omar Abidi and Dan Haigh – release their eagerly-anticipated debut album at the beginning of March, and Charlie admits he is delighted to have swapped the adoration of screaming girls for sweaty hardcore rockers.
Charlie, 20, also reveals what he thinks of James Bourne's new band Son Of Dork, while his new bandmates talk about their new album, their naked habits and explain why they love getting giant muffins in the post!
Hi Charlie. I'm so pleased you are happy in Fightstar. But why did you decide to leave Busted?
Sharon, Herts
C - I was so unhappy in Busted.
I was going to leave a lot earlier than I did but I had lots of commitments and didn’t want to let anyone down. I was living two lives with two different bands and it just got too much.
Nine months before I left Busted I was in Germany and I broke down.
I nearly had a mental breakdown. I asked my manager to not book anything else, so that I could leave Busted as soon as I had a completely free schedule.
I only really told my family and close friends but I think Matt and James had an idea I was unhappy. At the time the real life I was leading was with Fightstar.
[/b]O[/b] – Seeing Charlie before and after he left Busted, was like seeing an entirely different person. He was obviously disinterested in Busted as one day we were writing songs and he was late for an appearance at Wembley with them, because he said rather play with us!
When he made the transition from Busted to Fightstar suddenly there was a new ray of light. It was awesome.
D - It meant so much that he’d rather have been recording with us.
How did you guys get together?
Ben, Kent
O - Dan and Alex knew each other from school. I knew Al because we worked in production together.
A – My sister was living with Charlie’s girlfriend Camilla. One day Charlie came round when we were having a party and saw that I had a couple of guitars lying around.
We all got p***d and the girls said: ‘Go on, have a jam’. I didn't want to. Charlie was at No1 in the charts at the time and I thought I’d just embarrass myself.
C - Omar had popped round too. Al and I were playing Killing In The Name Of by Rage Against The Machine and Omar was drumming in his lap. I can spot a good drummer in seconds and he was nailing every single fill. I was thinking: ‘This is very interesting.’
I was playing music I actually liked. I hadn’t done that since I was 15.
D – We never put any pressure on Charlie to leave Busted.
O – We never had any preconceptions about what would happen with our band. It was great fun to be playing such cool music with such cool guys. The natural progression was Charlie wanting to leave Busted.
Charlie, Did you ever consider going solo?
Freddy, Basingstoke
C – No, never. There is nothing that I want to do more than what I’m doing with these guys. I get ultimate fulfilment out of working with Dan, Alex and Omar. It is more fun and it is much better to get a group perspective on a song. Four opinions are better than one.
Hey Charlie, do you still keep in touch with the Busted boys?
Ross Macintyre, Leeds
C – No, not really. Now and again.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Were you surprised when Matt went into rehab?
Nick
C – It is something that he wanted to do and I totally support him for doing it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What do you think of James Bourne's band Son Of Dork?
Juliet, Milton Keynes
C – Predictable. I think their songs are well crafted pop songs but it is not really my type of music.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you think you have the same fans as Busted?
Frank, Edinburgh
C – Yeah, I think some Busted fans have become fans of Fightstar. We welcome any fans that like our kind of music.
It is weird though - I’ve never been so happy to see guys at our gigs! It’s great. Most bands want more girls but I want more guys!
D – And the bigger the better!
C - It is nice to see girls who appreciate our music at our gigs though. You can tell which ones like our music and which ones are really into McFly.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Did you used to like Busted's music?
Mikael, Berlin
C – I like two of the songs that I wrote. The thing was, I just wasn’t passionate about that sort of music.
A – I liked one song.
D– I didn’t like them at all
O - Until I met Charlie I never watched Top Of The Pops or CD:UK. But, when I met Charlie I listened to some of his songs. It wasn’t my cup of tea but I could see his talent straight away.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you had to cover a Busted song, which one would it be?
Mrs Jordison, East London
D – I wouldn’t want to.
O – If we had a gun put to our heads it would be Why.
C – And we’d do it in a death metal style.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Charlie, Is it true you played a gig with Fightstar the day you quit Busted?
Mike, Hull
C – Yes, that day was one of the strangest days of my life. We were playing in Warwick. I have no regrets at all.
O – On the way up to the gig we put Radio One on and there were so many girls crying on the radio. It was very weird.
EDIT
I had to put this one in, as, well, it did make me laugh ;D.
Do you have a celebrity crush?
Bill, Bedford
O – Angelina Jolie.
C – Mischa Barton is so fit! I love the OC. I’d love to play a song in the show and snog Mischa.
A – I like Jessica Alba.
D – F*** celebrity dates
And I can't be bothered to do anymore ;D
